Duffy Role Model Assembly

What a treat we had.
Madison Nonoa,
came to our school and shared with us her love of singing and books.

Thank you Madison and Duffy for our books.

Room 1 - Race Relations Day

Look at us in our cultural clothes.

What a colourful class we are.

Race Relations Day Shared Lunch

On Race Relations Day
at Owairaka School we have a huge shared lunch with all the children and their families.

Our buddy class sat with us and helped us choose some foods we hadn't tried before.

Race Relation's Day Assesmbly

Race Relations Day
Friday 24th March

What a huge day this is at Owairaka School.

Here we are waiting our turn to go up on stage at assembly.

Room 1 looks very handsome in their cultural costumes.

Watermelon

Lucky us,
we have been having Watermelon
for morning and afternoon brain food snack.

Green Day

Green Day Friday 10th March

Here is Room 1,  looking very
 GREEN.

After Green Day Assembly, we talked about our School
Care Code and we thought about the things we could do to help our world.

We drew little pictures of what we could do on our hands.

Save water - turn the taps off after washing our hands.
Save power - turn off the lights in the classroom and the CD player.
Protect nature - don't pick the leaves or flowers in the school gardens.
Recycle properly - put out rubbish in the right bins.
Look after animals and insects - don't touch our monarch caterpillars.
Pick up rubbish everywhere - we are all responsible for rubbish at our school.

Well done - Room 1.

"Zac's Train Set"

The Joy Cowley group read,
"Zac's Train Set".

They worked together and made a train set just like Zac's,
with
tracks, a bridge, a station an engine and carriages.

"Look at Me"

The Margaret Mahy Reading Group
read "Look at Me".

We have made our own, "Look at Me".

Look at Us...

"I am reading.
Look at me," said Navala.

"I am writing.
Look at me," said Kato.

"I am writing.
Look at me," said Tusi.

"I am writing.
Look at me," said Hanad.

Worm Study during Green Week

First we went on a worm hunt.

But we didn't find any worms.

So we decided to make a worm house in a bottle.

Room 1 are pretty good at drawing the worm house.

Can you see the worm?

Before we put the worms in the bottle, we had a look at the worms up close.
Here's what we thought.

We read and listened to lots stories and videos about worms and here's what we learnt.

I wonder if we could now be called  ...
... wormologist?
