Straws and Precious Rocks!

Straws and precious rocks have nothing
to do with each other.

Room 1 has been busy this week building with flexible straws.

We have been looking at different types of rocks.

Hilary has been matching the rocks with the pictures in the books.

Making a Butterfly with Parineeti and Brooklyn

Parineeti and Brooklyn read
"Making a Butterfly."

They then had a go at following the instructions.

Lau helped them with the paint and glued on the feelers.

Check out our butterflies in the cloak bay,
they look great.

Fakaalofa lahi atu

We went and had a look at the Niuean Flag,
we did all sorts of thinking about it.

Noticing & Wondering

We noticed that ...
both flags had the Union Jack on them
both flags had stars
the New Zealand flag was mainly blue
and the Niuean flag was yellow
both flags had white, red and blue
they are a rectangle shape
both are the same size

We wondered ...
How did the Niuean flag get there?
Where is the Niuean flag kept, when it's not up the flag pole?
Who put the Niuean flag up?
Do they use a ladder to put it up?
How does it come down?
Is it there in the weekend?
What is the rope for?

Then Taytum walked past, he had lots of answers to our wonderings,
and showed us how the flags go up and down.

Holiday Reading Logs

Fairy Judy surprised us and came on Thursday
with our Holiday Reading Certificates and prize.

Room 1, you did really well reading in the holidays.

Shake Out Day

Shared Writing
Mrs Fletcher told us to get under the table and it was just a drill, DROP, COVER and HOLD.  Sione went under the computer table. Our hands went on our heads. We had to be like a turtle.  Mrs Fletcher said to meet at the field and she rang long bell. Thaddeus was our leader. Mrs Fletcher said that that we were quiet.

DROP, COVER, and HOLD.

Be Turtle Safe.
