Putting our strawberries to bed

Have you ever put strawberries to bed?

What a strange think to say.

Well, that's what we did the other week during Discovery Time.

First,
we removed any weeds from the  strawberry patch and picked the ripe strawberries to eat.

Next,
we carefully lifted the strawberry plants and put hay underneath them,
so they were sitting on a bed of hay.

Then,
we gathered sticks and put them around the edge and in the middle of the strawberry patch.

After that,
we put the netting over the strawberries so the birds couldn't get to them.

Now, are strawberries have been "put to bed."

A bonus for the school chickens, is that they get to eat the yummy weeds!

Painting our Diva's

First,
we painted the bottom and the side
of our Diva.

Next,
we painted the inside and the rim
of the Diva.

Finally,
we painted the pattern on the inside
of the Diva and then around the outside.

Now we just have to let them dry.

They look great Room 1.

Thank you Mr Lyons

Do you remember the book,
Deacon shared with us about ball sports?

Another one of those games reminded our teacher about an old game.
If fact, she was pretty sure that Mr Lyons had the game in his class.

And... sure enough he did. (not that he is old, but ...)

She thought it was called Gutter Board.
With a bit of research from our teacher and hunting from Mr Lyons,
we now have our own Gutter Board, which we can play at lunchtimes.

Here we are having a go.

NZ has a Gutter Board Association that has the rules, yes believe it's true.
Here's the link:

Our Little Garden - Update

Room 1 has green fingers.
Our Little Garden seeds are growing so well,
we will have to plant them in the garden soon.
