A Safe Place by Sue Mooar

Image result for ready to read A safe place

This has been our Shared Big Book during
Samoan Language Week.

This story, set on a Pacific island, tells of a hen's search for
safe place to hatch her chicks.
This week in Room 1, that Pacific island has been Samoa.

We have been learning the Samoan words for:

Chicken - taumoa
Pig - puaa
Children - tamaiti
Bush - rao
Coconut tree - la'au pulu
Biscuit tin - keke keke
House - fale
Canoe - va'a

On Friday we made our own island and acted out the story.

Here's what it looked like...

We did talk about the reef, and how "Nemo" wasn't allowed to go to the "drop off"
but somehow the large shark got into the lagoon.

We didn't have a biscuit tin, so used a cup.

A little bit of help from "Moana" figurines as the children.

Am hoping there will be more "play" to come.
