Sketching & Painting

We have been learning to use a sketching pencil.

First, we went to look at the Pohutakawa tree outside Room 10.
We looked at the lines and shapes that make up the tree trunk and the branches.

Next, we practised sketching the tree trunk, we had several goes at this.  We only sketched the tree trunk and some of the branches.

The tree trunk was going to be in the foreground of our artwork.

After that, we dyed the tree trunk.

Now, we were ready to get started on our background.
We looked at the artwork by New Zealand artist; Sydney Graheme.
We noticed that in his paintings; at the top the sky was a darker blue
than where the sky met the land, where the sky was a lighter blue.

Check out his images on the net.

We have been learning to use different colours to create a painting to represent day.

So, we started with blue paint on our palette, this went at the top of our page, then we added a little bit of white to our palette and mixed together.  This is called tinting.
We continued to paint the background.

After that, we painted the ground and added some hills in the background.
Now, we were ready for the finishing touches.  We went for an Autumn walk and collected leaves for our artwork.

Here are our results, they look fantastic.

Well done Room 15, tino pai!
